Practice Description

Mr. Nelson’s practice focuses on trade with and investment in the People's Republic of China, with a particular specialization in PRC taxation and tax planning, acquisitions, information technology and infrastructure project work.

Significant Appointments:

Mr. Nelson is a partner of Baker & McKenzie and is co-head of the firm’s China Practice Group of the Hong Kong office.

He has worked in Hong Kong for Baker & McKenzie for the past 18 years on various aspects of foreign investment in China, including PRC tax aspects of investments in China and tax planning from both a PRC and home country tax perspective. Mr. Nelson has published numerous articles on various aspects of Chinese taxation in various publications, including Tax Notes International, Asia-Pacific Tax Bulletin, Intertax and others. He is a frequent participant in seminars and presentations focusing on PRC tax and investment. Mr. Nelson has recently been named as one of the top advisers in PRC projects, tax and foreign investments in many international publications.

Education and Bar Admittance:

Mr. Nelson graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1980 and obtained his law degree from Columbia University in 1986.
