Speaker’s Bio:
Don Hsi is currently the General Manager for Mirrors
International Inc. Mr. Hsi has over 25 years of experience in the software
industry, delivering consumer and enterprise software products, as
well as building offshore development centers in U.S., China, Taiwan, and
Pakistan.
From June 2002 to December 2003, Mr. Hsi
was CTO of Stryon Inc., oversees its technology and its outsourcing
strategy. Also in charge of the Product Development team located in
ChangSha, China. During which time, Mr. Hsi also chair the OMG
Legacy Transformation Working Group, helping to create
a standard that is based on the UML (Unified Modeling Language) and other
standard methodology.
Mr. Hsi founded Halcyon Software in 1990 and served
as its President & CEO until June 2002 when the company was merged
with Stryon Inc. During the 12 years, Mr. Hsi assumes responsibility
for all phases of product planning, sales, marketing, and software
development.
In 1995, Mr. Hsi established his first offshore
development center adjacent to ShenZhen, China, ramped up to over 100
developers by 1999. Mr. Hsi established the second development center
in Karachi, Pakistan with 40 persons. In 2000, the third development center is
situated in ChangSha city, China, with 50 developers. Mr. Hsi was also instrumental in assisting other companies such
as TVIA building up its 150 person development team in HeFei, China.
Since 1993, Mr. Hsi has accumulated his experience
in building offshore team, applying development disciplines, remote management,
and many other aspects that are necessary. Collectively, Mr. Hsi has created a
Distributed Software Manufacturing (DSM) methodology, which has been
proven to be extremely successful and effective. Some evidence
of success came from the 6 commercial products developed by his
offshore teams, whereas all of these products were sold in the U.S. market
successfully. Its customers include IBM, Oracle, Sun, Apple, Merrill Lynch, and
many others. One of the products is acquired by Oracle with
full source code integrated into the Oracle 9i Application Server product line.
Before founding Halcyon, Mr. Hsi spent seven
years at Hewlett-Packard holding positions in Sales, Marketing and
R&D. He has a Master degree in Computer Science
from Kansas University. Mr. Hsi is married with two children, residence in
Saratoga, California, USA.
